This issues has been a proceeding dilemma especially on how to decently assist their well beings and needs. Those who don’t understand your situations may say that senior citizen home care can be found all over the country, so you should not have any problem choosing one. Of course choosing one is not the problem, but you must have sound rationalities why you must send your elderly parents away though senior citizen home care have their beneficial cause.

Though a few decide to care for their elderly parents in their own homes, the huge majority of them send them to senior citizen home care where they will be substantially looked after and closely kept an eye on.

In addition as the senior care home is preparing food for people for the same age level, you are able to be sure that the nutrients that they serve up are all appropriate for their age. Another good thing that you should do if your elderly parent or relative has health concerns is to take the opportunity to even demand for a particular diet.

One of the most usual reasons why families send their elderly members to senior citizen home care is the fact that they don’t have time to look after them. This is particularly true if all the family members have to work or have school during the day and no one is in the house to keep an eye on them. How to Avoid Senility in Your Golden Years

The reason ‘old sayings’ become ‘old sayings’ is because they’ve been proven to be universally true and because they’re true, they’ve been handed down and passed around for generations. One such old saying is “You learn something new every day”.

We are lucky that scientists are leading the way to learning something new every day. Case in point: our belief that once we age, our brain cells die and cannot be regenerated.

Scientists however have discovered that brain cells do grow in adults, specifically in the area of the brain called hippocampus, which is responsible for learning and memories. They’ve also discovered that senior citizens can have the same number of brain cells as they did as teenagers.

The brain does shrink in size over time. After reaching full size at around age 20, it begins to shrink by about 1% every year. The decrease in size is not due to neuron (nerve cell) death, but rather to changes of the dendrites that branch out from the neurons and the synapses (the spaces between adjacent neurons) between them.

The changes in the dendrites and the decrease in their numbers is the primary reason for a reduction in brain function as we age. Dendrites serve to connect the neurons to each other, in much the same way as entrance ramps connect surface roads to the interstate. If interstate entrance ramps are destroyed or in extremely poor condition, can you see how much harder it would be to continue on the path to your destination?

When nerve impulses are also destroyed or are in poor condition, they similarly have a hard time continuing on their path and reach a ‘dead end’. The good news is that we don’t have to suffer from brain cell deterioration as we get older.

Brain function in general and the dendrites in particular, deteriorate because of disuse. Which may bring to mind another ‘old saying’; use it or lose it. This is especially true when it comes to our body. If neural pathways are not kept active, they will gradually decrease in strength and function until they are no longer able to perform properly.

For example, do you know the biggest reason so many elderly people can’t sit in the floor? Because at some point in their lives, they stopped sitting in the floor. In order to make a particular movement, the brain combines the electrical signals of many neurons and makes a muscle movement. If the movements required to lower oneself to the floor are never used, those pathways between neurons become too weak to carry the signal and the brain’s memory of how to perform that movement is not able to be recovered.

In order to promote neurogenesis (the making of new brain cells), we need to stay mentally and physically active. Note that stress can inhibit the formation of brain cells. Do you know what enhances it? Physical exercise.

We can stay active mentally by doing mentally challenging things, like crossword puzzles and brain teasers. By staying mentally and physically active, we can make the brain continue generating new brain cells and reduce our changes of suffering from senility.
